Knockmealdown Active is a volunteer-led organisation that promotes outdoor recreation, events, and visitor experiences across the Knockmealdown Mountains and surrounding communities.
From St. Declan’s Way and the Knock Me Down Adventure Race to seasonal activities and local walking routes, Knockmealdown Active helps people discover, explore, and experience this region of South Tipperary and West Waterford.
INTO THE REGION
Stretching between South Tipperary and West Waterford, the Knockmealdown Mountains are known for their open landscapes, quiet routes, and accessible walking terrain.
The area combines long-distance routes like St. Declan’s Way with shorter looped walks, scenic drives such as the Vee, and natural features like Bay Lough. It’s a region that suits both organised events and independent exploration.
Go for a multi-day walk, a weekend visit, or taking on an adventure race, the Knockmealdowns offer a mix of mountain trails, quiet roads, and standout natural landmarks.
OUR EVENTS
A 6 stage walking route from Cashel to Ardmore, crossing the Knockmealdowns and linking coastal and inland landscapes. Suitable for walkers of all levels.
A seasonal kayaking experience on one of the region’s most distinctive natural features. Suitable for beginners, with equipment and guidance provided.
An annual multi-discipline race combining cycling, trail running, and Kayaking. Open to a range of fitness levels with 2 race formats available.

The communities involved are Ballyporeen, Clogheen, Goatenbridge, Ardfinnan and Newcastle.
