Lyrefune Walk Ballyporeen

Lyrefune Walk, Ballyporeen – Knockmealdown Walking Club

This is a lovely walk with not too many climbs. There is a slight detour of a few hundred yards that brings you to the most wonderful views to Mitchelstown and the Galtee Mountains across the valley. We were blessed with glorious weather for this one, which makes all the difference on a Spring walk.

The starting point can be reached by leaving Ballyporeen via the Araglin road. The first right turn on this road, a few miles out will take you quickly to the starting point which is the first forest road to the right.

Most of the walk is on forest tracks, but there is a long stretch of concrete roadway close to the start.

Bring walking boots/shoes or runners, some weatherproof clothes a drink and a snack.

The walk is about 10km, it is not at all difficult and should take in the region of two hours to complete at a moderate pace.

You can find the route on ViewRanger here.

Weather permitting next week’s walk (Sunday March 25th) will be on Slievenamon at Clonmel. Meeting at Ardfinnan at 10am. For further details or to find out more about the walking club contact Jim O’Brien on 087 249 0089.

These arrangements have been changed as underfoot conditions on Slievenamon are not conducive to walking yet so walkers will meet up at the Bally Hi pub in Ballyporeen at 10am on Sunday morning instead. In order to be kept up to date with any late changes to itinerary, register with Jim O’Brien on the phone number above and you’ll receive text notification the evening before the event.

Here are some photos from the day’s walking action.
