May 21st – Walk in aid of Parkinson’s Sufferers
The route being walked on May 21st is the newly launched ‘Knockmealdown Trail’, one of the projects developed by Knockmealdown Active to link up the villages along the Knockmealdown Mountains from Ballyporeen to Newcastle.
The trail consists of 3 walks accommodating every level of fitness and ability.

Walk A – Check-in 8am – 9am |
Depart by bus for Ballyporeen at 9.15am |
Walk B – Check-in 10am- 11am | Depart by bus for Clogheen at 11.30am |
Walk C – Check-in 12 noon – 1pm | Depart by bus for Goatenbridge at 1.30pm |
All walks cost €20 to participate. All finish at the Community Hall Newcastle where refreshments will be served.
It is very important to sign-in on your return to Newcastle.
- All walks are accompanied by a leader but if you want to move on at your own pace the route is fully waymarked with red arrows.
- Runners or walking boots and clothing appropriate to weather conditions must be worn.
- All are welcome but children & young adults under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Sorry, no dogs allowed on this walk.
The launch of the Knockmealdown Trail will take place at the start of the C Walk near the trailhead at Goatenbridge where local resident, Tom Ahearne, will cut the tape.
