Three Dunes Search and Rescue Skills Day
On Sunday November 11th 2012 there was a wonderful exhibition of Search and Rescue skills at theThree Dunes (past Shanrahan, out the Araglen road on the left after the Sheep Pens, which is the Knocklugga Loop Trail-Head). Present on the day were Irish Search Dogs, the Red Cross, the Order of Malta, the Civil Defence and the Irish Coast Guard – who brought along their Helicopter based at Waterford Airport for a rescue demonstration.
This excellent day was planned and executed by Jim O’Brien, Donal Lonergan and Trevor Sheehan.
In the meantime there is a gallery of pictures from the day’s activities below. Anybody who wants full sized photographs of the group in front of the Coast Guard Helicopter (or any other photo or video for that matter) just drop a line to info@clogheen.net specifying which photos you want and we’ll send them on.
If you’ve never been to the Three Dunes (also known as Araglen Waterfalls), then it is well worth a visit, it is spectacularly scenic. See map at the bottom or visit its Loc8 page here. Take the turn for Shanrahan Graveyard when driving the Ballyporeen road from Clogheen. Drive to the top of the hill. The entrance is on the left hand side just after the sign for the Knockclugga Loop Trail-Head at what is known locally as the Sheep Pens. The Three Dunes is the first left as you head down the other side of the hill.
We’re still adding photos to this page, so bear with us for a few days. We’ll also have video from the day here shortly.
If you want high resolution copies of any of the pictures shown here (they don’t look their best here as they’ve been reduced in quality to speed up how quickly they’ll show on the website) just drop us a line on info@knockmealdownactive.com and we’ll be happy to send them on.
